Y'know I heard storys about girls feeling unwelcome in comic stores.But Ive been in many on the east and west coast and I never had a problem.

I never really had any problems but the guy at the shop I frenquent now used to watch me like a hawk and make me really nervous. I figured he didn't really like me being in there for a long time. When I bought stuff he wouldn't talk to me aside from telling me the amount. It was infuriating. Then I bought some Barry Ween books and he started talking about how great they were. We bonded. Now he's friendly, but he doesn't seem to like X-Men which is the main books I buy. He kinda handles my X-books like they're tainted when he rings them up.
This guy in this column though, he needs a big kick in the ass by a girl in spike heels and spandex. No, he'd prolly like that.Maybe Storm should go fry him. Zzzzt! However, I read the stuff in the Truth about whatever his name was forum and those guys picked him apart quite well.

Well, I've never experienced any bad treatment in comic stores as a woman. But I have had an experience in which the staff seriously questioned my taste. As in "Can't you buy a proper "bande dessine?" instead of that American commercial junk? Somebody your age should know better than read the X-men!"
Woman and adults reading comics is more acceptable in Europe, and as a result of this there is more high-brow, adult and artsy stuff on the market. All of it creator owned, and often very high quality. A main stream American comic is sometimes snobbishly looked down on.
Personally, I buy stuff out of both categories. I love a good, profound and adult comic every now and then. But reading that all the time would be a bore. Time for a good juicy superhero comic! Light, plenty of pathos and not too much detailed gore and sex. I guess Marvel comics are my substitute for soapoperas...
